Consequences of Playing Another Species: The Sore Thumb

I’m struggling. I’m playing a dwarf in a Rogue campaign for Unchained Heroes and my mind is screaming at me all the time about the craziness of my choice. What was I thinking? Why am I a dwarf? As a rogue, that has to be just about the dumbest choice I could have made. At least a halfling rogue or a gnome rogue has size on their side. What does a dwarf have? I have to spend all my time not being seen and not drawing attention to myself. My GM is rolling with this and has no idea about my conundrum (now he probably does), but my desire to make justifiable reasons for my character choice has...

What you want to know, but haven’t asked about Unchained Heroes

It was a little over two and a half months ago that the Unchained Heroes RPG was released to the world. It has felt like it has been much longer and in some ways it has. On the day Unchained Heroes was released I was fortunate enough to talk with Dan Davenport and do a Q&A session. For those of you that have not seen it, here it is: #RGPNET Dan Davenport interviews Kurt Patz, the Creator of Unchained Heroes RPG It asks many of those questions that you probably had about the game system. There have been a lot of questions about how the Combat Timeline works, so today, I want to point you...

Get thee behind me, Meta!

Slay the meta. Get thee behind me, Meta! I shall not be beholden to you! Tell me how you really feel, right? Ok, here it goes. I’ve been working on a lot of setting content for Unchained Heroes lately. It’s fun to share it with you all and hear about the thoughts everyone has on it, but you might be surprised to hear that making a setting isn’t part of my game philosophy. In fact, when presented with a setting, I often find myself saying, “Get thee behind me, Meta!” and biblically destroying the universe that I am presented with. I don’t like running other people’s settings,...

The Zetian Archangel Combat Vessel

The Zetian Empire of Eld is a mighty kingdom, ruled by an ironfisted belief in the One True God as found in their holiest of texts, the Zetathan. Zetia tolerates outsiders only so much as they are needed for their kingdom to thrive. Throughout their history, they have not been aggressive in extending their borders or in acquiring new converts. They preach to any who would listen and prefer to stay tightly within the borders of Zetia. They live out their lives peacefully by deploying a heavy deterrent that was until recently, entirely untested–the Archangel Combat Vessels. The might of...

Basilisk Lore Unlocked!

We learned about Dragons this week, so I thought it would be appropriate to talk about Basilisks as well. Unchained Heroes and the universe we stage it in, has a unique approach to both of these creatures. Basilisks are the bestial flying reptiles that are both a nuisance and boon to the people of Veerith. They are pets, instruments of war, guardians, and villains. One of them might be a family friend that loves to be itched under the chin, another might be girded and trained for war, another might be used to protect the family ranch, and still another might be rampaging the...

Dragon Lore added!

This week we have a new content page on Dragons in the World of Veerith. They follow enough of the high fantasy tropes for you to be familiar with them, but there are quite a few twists, so check them out here. We will discuss the basilisks of Veerith in the near future to flesh out the full world of these mighty creatures and the basilisks that we often confuse with them. If you need a refresher on any of the lore of the Unchained Heroes universe that ties into the stories surrounding Dragons, you can check that out here under the Living World of Veerith and here under the Cosmology of...
